Awesome article, Despite the outcome. How can you not root for a guy like this. Makes you wish there was a way he could have made it through all this without the head injuries and addiction. Underscores the need for young hockey players to focus and school and grades. Just as entertaining was all the comments on the website on response to the article, most by uninformed pin heads. The reality is that football, even at the youth and HS school levels, have a lot more issues than hockey when it comes to hits to head and concussions. Girls playing soccer are more prone to concussions than girls playing hockey. We are fortunate in Mass to live in an area where so many kids play hockey. It's a great sport with many life lessons to be learned. Derek recalls his fondest childhood memories were driving to practices and games with his Dad.
